Astrida joined TAFE Directors Australia in August 2019 after a long career with the Australian Public Service. At TDA Astrida is responsible for work on applied research in vocational education and training and collaboration with sponsors on digital blue tech opportunities. She also is supporting Australia’s participation in the upcoming World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics congress in Spain in October 2020.
Prior to joining TDA Astrida enjoyed a productive and varied career with several Australian Government departments in policy and research roles, strategic stakeholder engagement and project management. From 2006 – 2013 Astrida worked for the departments of education, training, industry and innovation on VET skills policy. This work included COAG VET reform, the OECD review of VET in Australia, strategic international engagement and collaboration with several industry-government workforce working groups covering rural and regional, mining, engineering, tourism and hospitality.
From 2013 – 2017 Astrida worked in Indonesia as the education and science counsellor based in the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. This role involved maintaining the important bilateral education relationship, strengthening collaborative scientific research opportunities and helping to introduce the New Colombo plan into Indonesia.
Vocational education and training always has been an interesting ‘space’ for Astrida to work in, with its many players and diverse issues. In the end it’s the positive learning outcomes that matter for individuals, businesses and communities that keep people passionately engaged in this sector. Go the Power of TAFE!
Astrida holds two science degrees from Macquarie University, Sydney and an Executive Masters in Public Administration from the Australian National University, Canberra.
